Private security on public and private school grounds is a great way to increase the safety of that school and fill in gaps where sheriff and police school resource officers are not available full time. However, the government in Virginia has now banned armed security on school properties including SCOP. This has created a dangerous environment presenting a false feeling of safety to parents, students and teachers. While other security companies take advantage of schools, parents, and students to turn a profit despite knowingly endangering lives to make money. We at the Commonwealth Guard cannot in good conscience place an unarmed security officer on school grounds knowing that there is very little to nothing that the officer could do to stop an armed active shooter. Therefore, we have greatly limited our campus security program.
